SCREAM 7 Featurette Explores Kevin Williamson’s Full-Circle Move to the Director’s Chair

Paramount Pictures has released a new featurette for Scream 7 that provides a behind-the-scenes look at the film’s production, focusing on Kevin Williamson (Teaching Mrs. Tingle)as he steps behind the camera for the first time in the franchise he created. Alongside Williamson, cast members Neve Campbell (Wild Things, “The Lincoln Lawyer”) and Isabel May (Run Hide Fight, “1923”) reflect on returning to — and expanding — the Scream legacy.

The film has had a turbulent path to production. Original Scream reboot directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett left the project, followed by Christopher Landon’s brief involvement, before Williamson took over to direct a screenplay he co-wrote with Guy Busick. Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega also exited, while Campbell confirmed her return after sitting out Scream VI.

Williamson’s move to the director’s chair carries a strong sense of symmetry. He wrote the original Scream in 1996, but it was Wes Craven who directed, using his experience to balance the script’s sharp, self-aware humour with classical suspense. Nearly three decades on, Scream 7 is the first film in the series that Williamson has directed himself, bringing his involvement in the franchise full circle.

Beyond Scream, Williamson’s work spans I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Faculty and Cursed, as well as the television series “The Following,” with Teaching Mrs. Tingle marking his first feature as a director.

In Scream 7, Sidney Prescott is attempting something close to normality, living quietly in a small town far removed from the bloodshed of her past. That sense of safety doesn’t last long. The arrival of a new Ghostface threat puts her daughter (Isabel May) in the firing line, forcing Sidney back into a familiar fight for survival.

Scream 7 features a mix of returning and new cast members, including Courteney Cox, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Mckenna Grace, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Asa Germann, Celeste O’Connor, Sam Rechner, Ethan Embry, Tim Simons, and Mark Consuelos.

Scream 7 is scheduled for a theatrical release this February 27, 2026.
