Wakey, wakey! Jorma Taccone, Saturday Night Live alumnus and member of The Lonely Island, helms the dark action comedy Over Your Dead Body, which will have its world premiere at the 2026 South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW) on Saturday, March 14, before opening in theaters nationwide on April 24, 2026.
Ahead of its SXSW premiere, the first trailer for Over Your Dead Body has dropped, giving audiences a first look at the film.
“Jorma Taccone stands as one of the most creative and reliably brilliant voices in comedy and we are delighted to collaborate with him and our friends at 87North, XYZ, and Resolute Films on Over Your Dead Body,” said Scott Shooman, Head of Independent Film Group. “The film is a dark, twisted, and riotous action comedy, with a killer cast – a perfect recipe to delight audiences on the big screen.”
Over Your Dead Body stars Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Timothy Olyphant, Juliette Lewis, Paul Guilfoyle, and Keith Jardine. The film follows a dysfunctional couple, played by Segel and Weaving, who retreat to a remote cabin to supposedly reconnect, though each has secret plans to kill the other.
The project is an English-language adaptation of the Norwegian thriller The Trip, directed by Tommy Wirkola, which held an 85% Rotten Tomatoes rating and was praised for its inventive violence, wild energy, and performances from Aksel Hennie and Noomi Rapace. Wirkola was initially set to direct the English version in 2021, but by late 2024 Taccone had taken over as director, with Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney penning the screenplay.
Producers on the project include Kelly McCormick, David Leitch, Aram Tertzakian, Nick Spicer, Guy Danella, and Lee Kim. Executive producers are Kjetil Omberg, Jørgen Storm Rosenberg, Tommy Wirkola, Jorma Taccone, Maxime Cottray, Nate Bolotin, Timo Argillander, and Andrea Scarso, with Karen Gillan credited as co-producer.
Over Your Dead Body marks Taccone’s latest feature following Pop Star: Never Stop Stopping and MacGruber.
