‘OLD GUY’ Trailer: Because Sometimes Age and Experience Are the Best Weapon—Especially When You’re an Assassin

The Avenue has just dropped the official trailer for their upcoming action-packed comedy, Old Guy, and if there’s one thing this film teaches us, it’s that the older generation can still kick some serious butt—no matter what the young guns think.

Directed by the legendary Hertfordshire-born Simon West, best known for Con Air, The Expendables 2, and, yes, Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” music video, Old Guy stars Christoph Waltz (No Time To Die, Inglourious Basterds), Cooper Hoffman (Saturday Night, Licorice Pizza), and Lucy Liu (Presence, Cypher). If you think Waltz—who plays an aging hitman—is too old to still be at the top of his game, think again. This film shows that when it comes to fighting back against betrayal and dodging bullets, the “old guard” is still plenty capable.

The plot is simple but explosive: Waltz’s character, Danny, a seasoned hitman, is being replaced by a younger prodigy (Hoffman). Forced to train the kid, the pair quickly discover they’ve been set up for a deadly trap. With betrayal coming from every corner, Danny and his new recruit—along with Danny’s would-be love interest, club manager Anata (Liu)—form an unlikely but lethal trio on a mission to take down their would-be assassins and make sure there’s no “permanent retirement plan” for old hitmen.

The supporting cast includes Ryan McParland (Calm With Horses, “Halo”), Ann Akinjirin (“I May Destroy You”, “Moon Knight”), Tony Hirst (“Pistol”), and Kate Katzman (Hot Seat, The Comeback Trail).

The film, which was filmed on location in Northern Ireland, has already made waves, premiering to rave reviews at the Newport Beach Film Festival in October 2024. It will hit select theaters and digital platforms on February 21, 2025. So buckle up for a wild ride, because when life hands you betrayal and backstabbing, there’s always room for a little revenge—especially when you’ve got experience on your side.
