A tense, morally complex story is set to unfold in the heart of Los Angeles’ housing projects, where loyalty, survival, and trust will be put to a terrifying test. Night Patrol, directed by Ryan Prows and releasing in theaters this Friday, January 16, follows a police officer navigating this dangerous landscape, confronting threats both on the streets and within the force.
From the mind of festival alumnus Prows (“The Penguin” co-writer), Night Patrol marks his second feature and delivers a politically charged dive into the LAPD’s darkest corners. The film follows an LAPD officer (Jermaine Fowler – Sting, Appofeniacs) who must set aside his prejudices and team up with the street gangs he once saw as enemies. Their uneasy alliance is driven by the discovery of a disturbing secret within a local police task force – one so sinister it threatens to tear the entire community to shreds.

At the heart of the film is Fowler, supported by a stellar ensemble cast including Justin Long (Barbarian), RJ Cyler (The Harder They Fall), Freddie Gibbs (Down with the King), CM Punk (Girls on the Third Floor), YG (White Boy Rick), Flying Lotus (Ash), Dermot Mulroney (Scream IV), Jon Oswald (Lowlife), and Nicki Micheaux (The Shield). Prows co-wrote the script with Shaye Ogbonna, Tim Cairo, and Jake Gibson.
The film received its world premiere at this year’s Fantastic Fest, where it drew strong early praise. RogerEbert.com called it “an original, ambitious piece of work,” while Bloody Disgusting commended the cop-movie-meets-vampire tale for having “its finger on the pulse of today’s social politics” and delivering “strong performances.”
Following its festival run, Night Patrol will receive a theatrical release on January 16, 2026, and CinemaChords spoke with RJ Cyler, Freddie Gibbs, and Nicki Micheaux, who reflected on the challenges of portraying a story at the intersection of loyalty, survival, and justice.
