Hollywood Hills Go Wild: Suburbia Meets the Wild in ‘Coyotes’ Trailer

The official trailer for Coyotes marks the return of Colin Minihan (Grave Encounters), offering a savage meditation on survival, where suburban complacency collides with the merciless teeth of nature.

The film follows the Stewart family, who find themselves trapped in their Hollywood Hills home after a Santa Ana windstorm knocks out power and destroys their family SUV. As wildfires encroach from one side and a pack of aggressive coyotes closes in from the other, the family must navigate escalating danger with only a flashlight, an old iPad, and questionable decision-making skills. What begins as a familiar suburban setting quickly descends into chaos, forcing the Stewarts to transform from ordinary homeowners into desperate survivalists.

The cast includes Justin Long (Barbarian), Kate Bosworth (Superman Returns), Katherine McNamara (Shadowhunters), Brittany Allen (What Keeps You Alive), Mila Harris (Mary), and Norbert Leo Butz (A Complete Unknown).

Minihan clearly had a wild ride with this project: “I read the first draft of Coyotes and started laughing out loud. It had bite. It had chaos. And most importantly, it had fun… At the time, there were actual coyotes stalking our old dog in the Hollywood Hills. Every night felt like a horror movie. That real-world weirdness synced perfectly with the script’s energy. It wasn’t trying to be clever, or cool, or some kind of elevated genre exercise. It just was—wild, tense, funny, and totally unpredictable,” he says. “I’ve spent the last decade watching horror get more and more self-serious… Somewhere along the way, people forgot that horror could be fun and still have soul. Coyotes is a course correction.”

Coyotes will premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday, September 11, and Fantastic Fest on Saturday, September 20th before going on to receive a theatrical release via AURA Entertainment on October 3rd. Until then, feast your eyes on the trailer… and pray you’re not next on the menu…
