First Trailer Drops for William Brent Bell’s Beautifully Dark Folk Horror Feature ‘LORD OF MISRULE’

Magnolia Pictures & Magnet Releasing have debuted the first official trailer for William Brent Bell‘s (The Boy, Orphan: First Kill) latest shocker, Lord of Misrule in anticipation of the film’s release in theaters and on digital on December 8, 2023.

Directed by Bell, from a script penned by Tom de Ville (The Quiet Once, The Hallow), Lord of Misrule follows Rebecca Holland (Tuppence MiddletonPossessor, Downton Abbey), who has recently taken over as priest of a small town. When her young daughter Grace (Evie Templeton – Robert Zemeckis’ Pinnochio) goes missing at the local harvest festival, a desperate search begins. The closer they edge towards finding Grace, the more secrets emerge from the town’s dark past. Soon, Rebecca must decide just how much she is willing to sacrifice to rescue her daughter from the grip of evil.

The cast also features Ralph Ineson (who previously worked with Bell on Brahms: The Boy II) and Matt Stokoe (The Dyatlov Pass Incident, “Bodyguard”).

Recalling how the project came to fruition, Bell remembers when it was first brought to his attention by producer James Tomlinson, arriving with a note that simply read, “This is good.” Within the first few pages, Bell knew he was right:

“I was enthralled by Tom’s disturbing pagan mythology with haunting imagery that framed this drama of a missingchild. In my experience, it’s rare to find such well-written and beautifully dark material. My head was spinning with ideas for how to make this film and I couldn’t wait to do it.”

Lord of Misrule releases in theaters and on digital this December 8 and we’ll leave you with the aforementioned trailer to tide you over until then.
