In a move highlighting Universal’s ongoing investment in its legacy franchises, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are set to reprise their roles in the next installment of The Mummy, scheduled for release on May 19, 2028.

The film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence, with a screenplay by David Coggeshall (The Family Plan, Orphan: First Kill). Story details have not yet been disclosed. Fraser previously starred in the first three Mummy films, while Weisz appeared in the first two.

Sean Daniel, producer of the original trilogy and the 2017 Tom Cruise reboot, will return as producer, alongside William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment. Fraser will serve as executive producer, alongside Jason F. Brown and Denis Stewart of Hivemind. Universal oversight will be provided by EVP Production Development Jay Polidoro and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garell.

The 2017 reboot starring Tom Cruise grossed $410 million worldwide, including $80.2 million in the United States and Canada and $329.8 million internationally. With combined production and marketing costs of $345 million, the film fell short of break-even estimates, resulting in an estimated loss of $60–95 million for the studio. Its North American opening weekend totaled $31.7 million, the lowest of the franchise, while its international debut reached $140.7 million, led by China.

Radio Silence previously directed the 2024 vampire thriller Abigail and also has Ready or Not 2: Here I Come set to premiere at SXSW and release on March 20.
