Breaking News: Gareth Edwards Takes the Helm in ‘Jurassic World’ Sequel

The next chapter in the Jurassic Park/World franchise is gathering momentum. Following failed negotiations with David Leitch, Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment have set their sights on a new director: Gareth Edwards of Rogue One fame.

Edwards spent all of last week locked in meetings with executives, impressing Jurassic Park royalty, Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall. His vision for a fresh new age appears to have won them over, with an offer rapidly put on the table. With the studio’s blessing and a tentative 2 July 2025 release date, pre-production on the film is expected to begin soon.

David Koepp’s script is expected to be a complete overhaul of the franchise, with neither Chris Pratt nor Bryce Dallas Howard likely to reprise their leading roles. The same is also being said of long-time cast members Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill.

The new movie has already secured a top tier team behind the scenes. Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Spielberg will executive produce through his Amblin Entertainment. Veteran producers Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, of Jurassic World and Jason Bourne fame, will oversee production under their Kennedy-Marshall banner. Warner Bros. executives Sara Scott and Jacqueline Garell will oversee the blockbuster hopeful.
