Brand-New Bangers: Noteworthy Nods 2025 – Batch #27

Another Friday brings a fresh edition of Noteworthy Nods, our weekly survey of the finest indie singles. Drawing on the latest releases and the recommendations you continue to share, we’ve put together a selection that reflects the strength and variety of the current indie scene.

Last week saw standout tracks from The Enemy, Dead Freights, Colour TV, The Molotovs, and others. This week’s roster is equally impressive, featuring a host of songs we’ve been returning to again and again, including:

Keyside – Rock My Love

Keyside’s latest single rides a wave from hardship to hope, tackling addiction, unemployment, and the search for meaning through creative expression. Its bright, chiming guitars and infectious melody recall the classic, hook-laden heights of The La’s and Cast, blending emotional weight with pure indie-pop energy.

The Kairos – Rat Race

Mellower but bigger than ever, Liverpool’s The Kairos deliver their most ambitious track yet. Sparse verses showcase Tom Dempsey’s expanding vocal range over mesmerising, syncopated drums, before bursting into a stadium-ready chorus with guitars ringing with pure Noel Gallagher flair. The sheer scale of this banger practically demands a festival crowd singing along.

Crocodylus – Limbo

Sydney garage-punk trio Crocodylus deliver a relentless, moshpit-ready anthem on ‘Limbo.’ Built around the lyric “I want a new beginning,” the track surges with reckless vitality, channeling the intensity of starting afresh. It’s one of the most moshpit-enticing tracks I’ve heard in years – probably since Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit.’ Bold comparison? Without a doubt. But it’s that good. Crocodylus are In Bloom — and then some.

Cottons – Tight Wound Teddy

Already grabbing airplay on BBC Introducing, and for good reason, Cottons’ ‘Tight Wound Teddy’ moves seamlessly from verses carrying the kind of emotive lift early Coldplay perfected into a chorus brimming with melodic energy and sing-along appeal — a track that should see a whole new wave of fans cottoning on to who they are.

And that’s only scratching the surface of this week’s picks. Whatever your mood, the Noteworthy Nods playlist is packed with new tracks ready to soundtrack your weekend:

Alongside our weekly track picks, Noteworthy Nods brings you regular videocast interviews with emerging and established artists we think are worth your attention.
