“Bosch: Start of Watch” Expands Cast With Azita Ghanizada, William Fichtner and Kathleen Wilhoite

Bosch Start of Watch New Cast Members

A new chapter in the Boschtelevision universe is moving further into the character’s past, with three additional actors joining the cast of MGM+’s upcoming prequel series “Bosch: Start of Watch.”

Azita Ghanizada (“Suits LA,” “The United States of Al”), William Fichtner (Armageddon,” “Mom”) and Kathleen Wilhoite (“Murdaugh Murders,” “Road House”) will appear in recurring roles in the drama, which explores the early career of Harry Bosch. The series draws from the wider literary world created by crime novelist Michael Connelly, whose long-running book franchise previously inspired the television dramas “Bosch” and “Bosch: Legacy.”

Set in Los Angeles in 1991, the prequel focuses on Bosch at the beginning of his career with the LAPD. Cameron Monaghan plays the 26-year-old officer as he navigates the pressures of his first year on the force. The story unfolds in a city grappling with social tension, gang activity and divisions in the police department itself. What begins as routine patrol work gradually leads Bosch into a major robbery investigation and a broader network of corruption, events that help establish the uncompromising outlook he will later bring to his work as a detective.

The newly announced cast members play figures connected to both Bosch’s personal life and the wider criminal world surrounding the case. Ghanizada portrays Stacy, a driven lawyer whose professional ambitions place her in close proximity to organised crime. Her involvement with professional thief Cory Harbor complicates matters further, linking her personal relationships to the high-stakes world of criminal enterprise.

Fichtner will appear as Calhern, a former defence attorney who has become an influential power broker within Los Angeles’ underworld. Wilhoite, meanwhile, takes on the role of Helen, Bosch’s foster mother. Still mourning the recent death of her husband, Helen remains one of the most important figures in Bosch’s life during the formative period explored in the series.

The drama’s ensemble also includes Omari Hardwick as Bosch’s training officer Eli Bridges, Ariana Guerra as fellow rookie officer Rosa, and JD Pardo as Cory Harbor, the professional thief tied to the unfolding criminal storyline.

While the Bosch novels frequently reference the detective’s past, Connelly has noted that the early period depicted in “Bosch: Start of Watch” has never been explored in a single book. Instead, the series draws on scattered details about Bosch’s early life across the novels, expanding them into a narrative that ventures into what the author has described as previously “uncharted character territory”.

Production on the series comes from Fabel Entertainment. The project was co-created by Tom Bernardo, who also serves as showrunner, alongside Brian Anthony. Executive producers include Connelly, Henrik Bastin, Jamie Boscardin Martin and Jasmine Russ. Theresa Snider serves as co-executive producer for Hieronymus Pictures, with casting overseen by Seth Yanklewitz.

We’ll leave you with a recent CinemaChords interview with Titus Welliver, who portrayed Bosch across the franchise for more than a decade, as he reflected on the character while saying farewell to the role following the conclusion of “Bosch: Legacy” last year.
