Ash Return with Cosmic Confidence on “Ad Astra,” Incoming October 3rd

After weeks of cryptic clues—space suits, scrambled messages, and a flurry of tour dates — Ash have officially confirmed what many fans suspected – and yearned for: a brand new album is on the way. Titled Ad Astra, the trio’s latest full-length is set to touch down on October 3rd via Fierce Panda Records, and if the lead single “Give Me Back My World” is anything to go by, we’re looking at a full-scale sonic lift-off.

Premiered by Steve Lamacq on 6 Music, the track is a hook-laden blast that channels the anthemic spirit of “Shining Light” and the laid-back summer shimmer of “Walking Barefoot,” while still feeling firmly rooted in the now. It never drifts into indulgence; instead, it delivers with clarity and conviction — a signal flare from a band not content to coast on past glories. If this is the opening transmission from Ad Astra, then Ash sound like they’re strapping in for their most vital mission yet.

In typically candid fashion, the band have acknowledged the chaos surrounding the record’s creation. “We are a band well used to chaos when it comes to finishing a record but I think we might have outdone ourselves on this one,” they said in a statement, “Despite that chaos, or maybe because of it, (who knows?) I think we’ve made something pretty fucking special.”

They stop just short of calling Ad Astra their best work, but there’s a quiet confidence lurking beneath the modesty. “There was a lot of chat on the last album, saying Race the Night was our best album in 20 years. Ad Astra feels, I dunno, like a bigger record. More of it’s time. More cinematic, urgent.”

The LP also features Blur’s Graham Coxon on two tracks, bringing his signature edge to what are described as “particularly sassy songs.” With the band in especially rocket-fuelled form, we’re eager to see how this collaboration plays out.

The new record arrives with a kablammo of trimmings — multiple vinyl editions, cassettes, merch (all giving a nod to Tim Wheeler’s trusty Gibson axe), and bundles brimming with cosmic bounty — all available to pre-order now via ash-official.com. Meanwhile, “Give Me Back My World” offers the first glimpse into the new frontiers Ash are exploring — one that’s already got us counting down to the band’s cosmic return.
