Apple TV+ Debuts Trailer for Darkly Comedic Mystery Series “SUNNY” Starring Rashida Jones

Apple TV+ has just dropped the official trailer for its forthcoming darkly comedic mystery series “Sunny,” based on the book “Dark Manual” by Japan-based award-winning Irish writer Colin O’Sullivan. The ten-episode series comes from showrunner and executive producer Katie Robbins (“The Affair”, “The Last Tycoon”), executive producer and director Lucy Tcherniak (“The End of the F***ing World”, “Station Eleven”), and executive producer Rashida Jones (“Silo”, “Toast of Tinseltown”) who also stars alongside Hidetoshi Nishijima, Joanna Sotomura, Judy Ongg, YOU, annie the clumsy and Jun Kunimura.

The series stars Jones as Suzie, an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan, whose life is turned upside down when her husband and son vanish in a mysterious plane crash. As “consolation,” she is given Sunny, a new class of domestic robot created by her husband’s electronics company. Initially, Suzie resents Sunny’s attempts to fill the void in her life but they gradually develop an unexpected friendship as they uncover the dark truth behind the disappearance of Suzie’s family, becoming dangerously entangled in a world Suzie never knew existed.

Produced by A24 for Apple TV+, “Sunny” is written and executive produced by Robbins, through her shingle Babka Pictures. Tcherniak executive produces for Poppycock Pictures. A24 and Jones also serve as executive producers.

“Sunny” is the second collaboration between Apple, A24, Jones following the global premiere of Sofia Coppola’s acclaimed film On the Rocks. Jones also recently took on a leading role in Apple’s popular series “Silo,” based on Hugh Howey’s best-selling trilogy of dystopian novels.

The series is set to premiere worldwide on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. Viewers can enjoy the first two episodes on the premiere date, with subsequent episodes releasing every Wednesday until September 4, 2024.
