Discover Tom Hanks’ Portrayal of Walt Disney in 1st ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ Trailer

Disney has released the first-look trailer for The Blind Side director, John Lee Hancock‘s Saving Mr. Banks, which stars Tom Hanks as Walt Disney (the first time the animation icon has been portrayed on the big screen) and Emma Thompson as ‘Mary Poppins’ author P.L. Travers.

The film sets out to follow Disney and Travers on the long and winding production journey to adapt the novel for the silver screen. Bumpy in the sense that Disney initially tried to purchase the film rights in 1938, with the final product only seeing the light of day in 1964. This was the result of the author’s reluctance as she believed a film version wouldn’t do justice to her creation and at that time Disney studios were yet to produce a live action film.

Saving Mr. Banks opens on the 17th of January, 2014 in the UK. Penned by Kelly Marcel (Fifty Shades of Grey) the two lead actors are supported by the likes of Colin Farrell, Paul Giamatti, B. J. Novak and Jason Schwartzman.

We’ll leave you with the aforementioned first trailer:
