Back in the Booth: Coventry’s The Enemy to Drop First Studio Album in Ten Years — Social Disguises

After ten long years away, The Enemy are back where they belong — on the road, packing out venues and with a brand new album on the way. The Coventry trio will release Social Disguises on February 20, their first record since 2015’s It’s Automatic.

Since reforming in 2022 with their original line-up — Tom Clarke, Andy Hopkins and Liam Watts — The Enemy have barely stopped moving. Sold-out headline shows, festival slots, and the Indie Til I Die tour with The Subways and The Holloways have reignited that fierce connection with fans who grew up on We’ll Live and Die in These Towns.

The new LP marks the start of a fresh chapter for a band that went from Coventry upstarts to national headliners in a heartbeat. Back in the day, they scored a Platinum-certified No. 1 debut, two more Top 10 albums, Top 10 singles, and toured with Oasis and The Rolling Stones — not to mention bagging an NME Award. Now, with Social Disguises, it’s sounding like they’ve managed to bottle that same spirit, but with a decade’s worth of hard-earned wisdom behind them.

The record was produced by Matt Terry, the man behind fan favourite “40 Days and 40 Nights” and the Top 20 hit “No Time for Tears.” Clarke says the band went all-in to get it right:

“We tried to make this album in the same frame of mind that we made our first, as though we were making the follow-up to it. It took a year to write, around 90 demos, and another year in the studio. I’m very proud of it. We all are. Whatever success it does or doesn’t enjoy I feel like we all succeeded in making a great record we can be proud of forever.”

The first taste of that effort arrives next Friday with “Not Going Your Way” (pre-save HERE) — a track the band hints will strike a chord with fans of “Away From Here” and “We’ll Live and Die in These Towns”, channelling that same melodic punch with a renewed sense of purpose.

Across Social Disguises, Clarke writes from both experience and imagination, touching on his adult autism diagnosis, regret, anxiety, and the kind of miscommunication that can derail relationships. Elsewhere, he looks at what it’s like to watch the culture shift so fast that it feels like it’s slipping through your fingers.

The album is available to pre-order now from the band’s official store (HERE), with exclusive editions including a signed 20-track vinyl, orange vinyl, cassette, and ultra-limited test pressings, alongside standard and deluxe CD versions.

The Enemy’s current headline tour wraps up next month with two sold-out hometown shows at Coventry’s HMV Empire. Only Liverpool and Edinburgh have a handful of tickets remaining (available HERE). Then it’s on to a huge run supporting Ocean Colour Scene through late 2026, including arena dates at The O2, Manchester’s AO Arena, and Glasgow’s OVO Hydro.
