Scala Radio Partners with Abbey Road Studios to Discover The Ultimate Film Score

Across August, Scala Radio has partnered with Abbey Road Studios to help find the most popular film scores recorded at the famous venue.

For the first time, the public will be able to vote for their favourite film score recorded at Abbey Road over the decades, with Charles Nove counting down the listeners’ Top Ten in his Scala Radio show on Monday 28th August from 9am.

The vote will form part of Scala Radio’s ever popular “All Movies Monday” programming, which sees listeners take charge of the 12-hour movie music marathon, broadcasting 9am-9pm on 28th August, with each hour themed around a specific genre, composer, director, or actor.

With thousands of scores created at Abbey Road Studios over the last 43 years, Scala Radio presenter and film critic Mark Kermode has whittled down the list to 88 for listeners to choose between when the online poll opens on Friday 4th August.

From The Lord of the Rings, Braveheart and Eyes Wide Shut to Black Panther, Avengers: Endgame and Raiders of the Lost Ark, listeners can cast their vote by heading to www.scalaradio.co.uk. Voting opens on 4th August and closes on 20th August.

Alongside the listener vote, Scala Radio have also created a new four-part Sunday evening series which explores the film scores that have been recorded at the iconic Abbey Road Studios over the decades. Film Music at Abbey Road: Composer Spotlight will air each Sunday in August at 6pm from 6th August.

Episode One (TX 6th August) stars the Academy Award-nominated composer Daniel Pemberton who will talk about recording his scores for Steve Jobs, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Amsterdam, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse and many more. Episode two (TX 13th August) features the double Oscar-winning composer Alexandre Desplat who has recorded nearly 40 film scores at Abbey Road including The King’s Speech, The Shape of Water, Fantastic Mr Fox and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pts 1 & 2. The composers for the final two episodes of the series are currently TBC.

To celebrate the partnership, Scala Radio have also launched a new Premium station called ‘Film Scores from Abbey Road’ so film fans can enjoy all the best movie music recorded there. Subscribers to Premium can head to www.planetradio.co.uk/scala-radio/premium to listen, whilst non-subscribers can enjoy three months free using code ABBEYROAD. Subscription auto-renews after three months for £3.99 a month. T&Cs apply.
