SXSW Trailer: Game of Death is a Feral Feast for the Eyes

Here at CinemaChords, one strand of the SXSW Film Festival that always has us impatiently foaming at the mouth is the Midnighter section. One particular film that caught our eye when the lineup was first announced was Sebastien Landry and Laurence Morais-Lagace’s Game of Death, and we couldn’t be any more anxious to see it now in the light of the first seriously Grand Guignol trailer.

Described as a Jumanji/Natural Born Killers mash up, the premise also sounds like it doesn’t fall too far from the Battle Royale meets Beyond the Gates tree – never a bad thing, providing it brings plenty of inventiveness to the mix. The film stars Sam Earle, Victoria Diamond and Emelia Hellman who come across an obscure electronic board game that’s just begging to be played. Curiosity obviously gets the better of them and the band of youngsters find themselves flung into a game of life or death when they realise the only way to beat the device is to kill or be killed.

If the bloodsoaked trailer is anything to go by, Game of Death is going to be quite the visceral treat and looks more than worth checking out when it premieres at SXSW this March 13th, followed by two encore screenings on the 14th and the 17th.

In the meanwhile, we’ll leave you to revel in a taster of the gruesome gaming session SXSW festivalgoers are in for real soon.
