Wigan Quartet The Lilacs Raise the Bar with Biggest, Fattest, Riffiest Track Yet, ‘Hopeless Romantic’

With an ever-growing collection of fan faves such as ‘Vicarage Road’ and ‘Sally’, The Lilacs are emerging as one of the brightest new talents on the UK indie scene. Their energetic live performances, including shows with such established acts as The Lathums, Lottery Winners, The Sherlocks and The View, as well as slots at major festivals such as Isle of Wight and Y NOT? have caught the public eye. Now the effusive Wigan quartet are ready to continue their rise, starting with the release of their new single ‘Hopeless Romantic’ today (which you can listen to here). Dubbed the band’s “biggest, fattest, riffiest track yet,” the song is guaranteed to add to the already existing buzz surrounding The Lilac’s.

Their latest effort sees The Lilacs showcasing a maturation of sound and vision demonstrating a commitment to honing their signature indie rock style. The anthemic melodies that have become a hallmark of The Lilacs are infused with a grittier, more dynamic rock edge, thanks in part to Sam Birchall’s dexterous lead guitar work. Frontman Ollie Anglesea delivers his lyrics with a passion, exploring the nuances of a troubled romance he refers to as his “biggest mistake.”

Next month will see The Lilacs play a show as special guests to Cast (who have just released their 7th studio album today) before embarking on their biggest headline tour to date. Most dates are already close to capacity, but a limited number of tickets for the tour are still available here.
