Trailer for Luca Guadagnino’s Sports Rom-Com ‘CHALLENGERS’ Explores the Art of Seduction and Other Games

MGM Studios has just served the first official trailer for visionary filmmaker Luca Guadagnino‘s (Suspiria, Bones and All) forthcoming romantic sports comedy-drama, Challengers.

Directed by Guadagnino, from a script written by American playwright and novelist Justin Kuritzkes, Challengers stars Zendaya (Spider-Man: No Way Home, “Euphoria”) as Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy turned coach and a force of nature who makes no apologies for her game both on and off the court. Married to a champion struggling through a losing streak (Mike Faist – West Side Story), Tashi’s scheme for her husband’s redemption takes a surprising turn when he takes on down-and-out Patrick (Josh O’Connor – “The Crown”) – a friend from the past but also Tashi’s ex-boyfriend. As their pasts and presents collide and tensions simmer, Tashi must ask herself just how much it will take to win.

Kuritzkes is also adapting William S. Burroughs’ 1985 novel “Queer” for a film that Guadagnino will also direct.

Challengers is scheduled to release exclusively in theaters on September 15, 2023.
