Timothée Chalamet Finds Purpose in Ping Pong in Josh Safdie’s ‘Marty Supreme’ Trailer

The first trailer for Marty Supreme has debuted today, offering a glimpse of Josh Safdie’s (Uncut Gems, Good Time) latest film, a sports comedy-drama loosely inspired by American table tennis player Marty Reisman. Timothée Chalamet, who also co-produced, stars as the eponymous character, portraying a man whose intensity at the table mirrors his unpredictable personal life.

The supporting cast includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, and Fran Drescher. Safdie, working again with Ronald Bronstein, balances humour and tension in a style that retains his characteristic energy, though the trailer suggests a more controlled approach than some of his previous films.

Marty Supreme premiered at the New York Film Festival on 6 October, where critics highlighted Chalamet’s performance as central to the film’s appeal, describing it as confident and assured, fully inhabiting a character at once obsessive, charismatic, and flawed.

The film is scheduled for a U.S. release by A24 on 25 December 2025 and looks set to serve up a late-season run among the year’s award contenders.
