Wondermind and Agoric Media have debuted the trailer for “Suspicious Minds”, a compelling new docuseries that addresses a timely and disconcerting phenomenon: how the rise of artificial intelligence is triggering complex delusional thinking in individuals.
Created and directed by award-winning filmmaker Sean King O’Grady (The Mill, Our American Family) and executive-produced by Mandy Teefey and Selena Gomez, “Suspicious Minds” offers a profound examination of the psychological effects of emerging AI technologies on the human mind.
The series draws from firsthand accounts and extensive interviews with leading psychiatrists, neuroscientists, and AI ethicists to explore the alarming development of life-altering delusions rooted in AI – from fears around chatbots to anxieties about surveillance. It highlights how these modern delusions reshape paranoia and challenge our historical understanding of mental illness.
At the heart of the series are psychiatrist Dr Joel Gold and philosopher Ian Gold, PhD, whose groundbreaking work on the Truman Show Delusion — a belief that one’s life is secretly a reality TV show, inspired by the film The Truman Show — lays the foundation for the series. Their co-authored book, Suspicious Minds: How Culture Shapes Madness, informs much of the docuseries’ narrative.

The docuseries poses urgent questions for the digital age: How do AI and digital technologies act as new psychological triggers? What implications do these developments have for mental health treatment and prevention? And how can society increase awareness and destigmatize these emerging modern delusions?
In addition to Dr Joel Gold and Ian Gold, Suspicious Minds features contributions from activist Etienne Brisson, AI researcher and Stanford professor Nick Haber, AI ethicist Nate Sharadin, and Dr Amy Levy, Co-Chair of the American Psychoanalytic Association’s Council on AI. Interviewees include individuals experiencing AI-related delusions, such as Ryan Turman and his wife, Lacey Turman, as well as Allan Brooks.
The series’ executive producers also include Jonathon Glucksman, Molly Borman, Jesse Ford, David Tuohy, and Sean King O’Grady himself.
“Suspicious Minds” will debut on October 17, 2025, as a weekly video documentary series and podcast. The first series will roll out over eight weekly episodes, available across multiple platforms including YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Substack, and more.
For now, viewers can watch the trailer below, providing an eye-opening glimpse into how the series will challenge audiences to reconsider the psychological impact of our increasingly digital world.
