Lucasfilm Marked Super Bowl Sunday With a ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu Spot’

Lucasfilm highlighted Super Bowl LX with the release of a Big Game spot for Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, the next cinematic installment in the Star Wars universe. The film is scheduled to open exclusively in theaters on May 22, 2026.

Directed by Jon Favreau, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu stars Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin alongside Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White.

Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce produce the film, with a score composed by Ludwig Göransson. It was filmed for IMAX® screens ahead of its theatrical release.

The film expands on the story introduced in the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian,” created by Favreau as the first live-action Star Wars television series. Set five years after Return of the Jedi (1983), the series followed a lone Mandalorian bounty hunter tasked with protecting a Force-sensitive child, Grogu, from remnants of Imperial forces. The first season of “The Mandalorian” accumulated over 5.4 billion minutes of viewing time during its initial run, topping 1.15 billion minutes in its premiere week alone. Its second season became the most‑watched streaming series in the U.S. in December 2020 and the first non‑Netflix title to reach number one on Nielsen’s streaming chart.

Known details about the new film include the appearance of Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios and members of the Anzellan species, who were introduced in the third season of “The Mandalorian.” The film will also feature a new version of the Razor Crest, the Mandalorian’s ship that was destroyed during the second season.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu opens in theaters on May 22, 2026. The Super Bowl spot is available below.
