Legendary Filmmaker Chuck Russell Brings Chilling New Vision to WITCHBOARD in Upcoming Supernatural Shocker

Legendary director Chuck Russell (known for his work on A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, The Blob and The Mask) is stepping back into the horror genre with a terrifying new take on the 1986 cult classic Witchboard, and the first trailer and artwork have just dropped.

Produced by Atlas Distribution Company and The Avenue, Witchboard reimagines the iconic ’80s supernatural tale with a modern twist. Set in present-day New Orleans, the film follows a young couple who unknowingly unleash a vengeful witch when they come into possession of a cursed artifact. What begins as an innocent encounter quickly spirals into a deadly descent into possession, temptation, and dark occult forces that threaten to consume them.

Directed by Russell, from a script he co-wrote with Greg McKay, the film looks set to pay homage to its predecessor while bringing fresh, modern horror to the screen. The film stars Madison Iseman, Aaron Dominguez, Mel Jarnson, Charlie Tahan, with Antonia Desplat and Jamie Campbell Bower rounding out the cast.

We’ll leave you with the trailer, which we’ve got to hand it to them, looks set to creep audiences out when it received a wide release in theaters this August 15, 2025.
