INTERVIEW: Adam MacDonald Sinks His Teeth into Creature Confrontation Feature, ‘OUT COME THE WOLVES’

One of the more recent animal attacks movies we loved was Adam MacDonald’s acclaimed survival thriller Backcountry starring Missy Peregrym (“F.B.I.”, “Rookie Blue”). So, you can imagine our excitement when we learned that MacDonald and Peregrym were collaborating again on a new feature film..

The narrative of his latest ferociously unnerving feature, Out Come the Wolves follows similar beats to the aforementioned movie, with Enuka Okuma‘s script exploring the tense, unsettling dynamic that unfolds when retired hunter Sophie (Peregrym) invites her childhood best friend, and fellow hunter, Kyle (Joris Jarsky – “Reacher”, “The Changeling”) to her family’s remote cabin nestled deep in the wilderness. There, Sophie arranges for Kyle to meet and teach her fiancé Nolan (Damon Runyan – “Home Before Dark”) the basics of hunting for an article Nolan is working on, while also breaking the news of their engagement.

Tensions between Kyle and Nolan arise from their shared history with Sophie over the course of their ill-fated hunt, coming to a terrifying head when they find themselves surrounded by a ferocious pack of territorial wolves. As alliances are tested in the face of survival, Sophie is forced to draw on her long-abandoned hunting skills to fend off the deadly predators and save the one closest to her heart.

To mark the release of the film in both theaters and on digital platforms, CinemaChords interviewed MacDonald, who shared insights into the inspiration behind sinking his teeth into another wildlife survival thriller, his continued collaboration with Missy Peregrym, how music shapes his approach to filmmaking, getting to work with the wolves, and his preference for immersing his cast in a minimalist lifestyle to ensure a deeper emotional connection with the characters.
