Apple TV+ has confirmed the release date for the second season of its high-stakes thriller series, with Idris Elba once again at the helm of a transport-based hostage crisis – this time beneath the streets of Berlin.
Idris Elba is back in the thick of the action as Sam Nelson, the crisis negotiator with a knack for walking into trouble and talking his way out of it – provided no one else gets in the way. Apple TV+ has confirmed that the second season of its propulsive thriller “Hijack“ will debut globally on 14 January 2026, with a double-bill premiere followed by weekly episodes through late February.
Created by George Kay (“Lupin”, “Criminal”) and Jim Field Smith (“Litvinenko”, “Criminal”), the sophomore season moves from the skies to the tunnels, trading the claustrophobic cabin of a hijacked flight for the tense confines of Berlin’s underground rail network. Once again, hundreds of lives hang in the balance as a commuter train is seized, prompting a rapid response from local and international authorities.
Elba, who also serves as executive producer, reprises his Emmy-nominated role as Nelson. Joining him are returning cast members Christine Adams, Max Beesley and Archie Panjabi. The second season also welcomes a stellar line-up of new faces, including Christian Näthe (Ballon), Clare-Hope Ashitey (Top Boy), Lisa Vicari (Dark), Toby Jones (Mr Bates vs The Post Office), Karima McAdams (Dune: Prophecy) and Christiane Paul (Counterpart).
The series is produced by 60Forty Films and Idiotlamp Productions, with executive production duties shared between Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, and Tom Nash, alongside creators Kay and Field Smith—the latter once again stepping in as lead director.
Since its debut, “Hijack” has quickly established itself as one of Apple TV+’s most popular original dramas, drawing critical acclaim for its tightly wound plotting and Elba’s magnetic central performance. The first season, which unfolded in real time over the course of a seven-hour flight, earned a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and secured a spot on the Nielsen Streaming Originals Top 10 list.
The complete first season is currently available to stream on Apple TV+.
