Cold Wallet: Behind the Crypto Grifter Heist – Interview with Cutter Hodierne and Josh Brener

Well Go USA will release the crypto heist thriller Cold Wallet in theaters and on digital platforms tomorrow, Friday, February 28, 2025. The film presents a gripping portrayal of the worst-case scenario for those navigating the high-risk, high-reward world of cryptocurrency.

Cold Wallet centers on a man whose life is devastated by a manipulative crypto grifter. Seeking retribution, he tracks down the individual responsible, setting in motion a series of intense events. Directed by Cutter Hodierne, from a screenplay by John Hibey, the film delivers a taut thriller experience within the context of the volatile cryptocurrency market.

Prior to its theatrical release, Cold Wallet premiered at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival. The film features Raúl Castillo (Smile 2, Army of the Dead) in the lead role, alongside Josh Brener (Carry-On, “Silicon Valley”) as the antagonist. The ensemble cast also includes Melonie Diaz (“Charmed”), Tony Cavalero (“The Righteous Gemstones”), and Zoe Winters (“Succession”).

To delve deeper into the creation of this crypto-centric thriller, CinemaChords sat down with Hodierne and Brener. Our conversation explored the effort to maintain a tight, suspenseful narrative while remaining deeply rooted in the specifics of cryptocurrency and the portrayal of characters that accurately reflect the types of individuals who operate within this high-stakes environment.
