Eli Roth’s new production banner, The Horror Section, is coming out of the gate with a bang with its debut feature, Jimmy and Stiggs — a neon-soaked, alien-abduction fever dream that’s as wild as it sounds. The big news out of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is that the film has found its perfect home in Canada, thanks to a new distribution deal with Black Fawn Distribution, which will bring the madness to Canadian theatres starting September 25th.
Written and directed by Joe Begos (Bliss, Almost Human), who also stars in the lead role, Jimmy and Stiggs is a frenetic ride into the depths of alien paranoia. Alongside Begos is Matt Mercer (Contracted), who plays his estranged friend, Stiggs. The film follows Jimmy Lang, an out-of-work filmmaker who, after a perfect storm of bad news, spirals into a bender during which he claims to have been abducted by aliens. With fear of their imminent return, Jimmy reaches out to Stiggs, hoping to gear up for an alien war.
“I’m so thrilled to have Jimmy and Stiggs in the hands of Black Fawn Distribution,” says Roth. “They completely understand this audience, how to reach them, and how to turn this type of film into an event. The movie is a special one and those who see it will absolutely love it, but it takes some clever marketing to create an event and there’s nobody better to make this film a hit in Canada.”
For Chad Archibald, president of Black Fawn Distribution, the film is a no-brainer for genre fans. “Jimmy and Stiggs is a batshit insane film that genre fans need to see on the big screen,” Archibald says. “It’s a wild ride and we’re excited to be teaming up with Eli, Joe, and the entire Horror Section family to splatter their brand of neon alien blood across Canada.”
The early reviews for Jimmy and Stiggs are already rolling in, and they’re nothing short of glowing. Critics are praising the film for its chaotic blend of humor, horror, and heart—along with its sharp, surreal storytelling. Screen Rant called it “an audacious mix of absurdity and thrills,” while Fangoria described it as “a glorious descent into madness that genre fans will be quoting for years.” So get ready, Canada—Jimmy and Stiggs is coming to theatres on September 25th.
