A new track from Mother Mary has been released ahead of the project’s upcoming soundtrack.
“Burial,” performed by Anne Hathaway and co-written by Jack Antonoff, Charli xcx, George Daniel and Hathaway, is now available to stream in advance of the film’s full album release. The soundtrack is scheduled to arrive April 17 and will also feature additional songs by FKA twigs.
Written and directed by David Lowery, the psychosexual pop opera stars Hathaway alongside Michaela Coel, Hunter Schafer and FKA twigs.
The film centers on iconic pop performer Mother Mary (Hathaway), whose carefully managed public persona begins to fracture when she reconnects with her estranged best friend and former costume designer, Sam Anselm (Coel), on the night before a major comeback performance. Their reunion brings long-suppressed tensions and personal history back into focus.
Production took place in Germany with financial backing from the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW and the German Federal Film Fund.
Lowery produced the film with Toby Halbrooks and James M. Johnston. Additional producers include Jeanie Igoe of Homebird Productions, along with Jonas Katzenstein, Maximilian Leo and Jonathan Saubach of the Cologne-based Augenschein Filmproduktion.
A24 will release Mother Mary in select U.S. theaters on April 17, 2026, before expanding nationwide on April 24.
