Alexandra Shipp and Nick Stahl on Revenge Thriller ‘Violent Ends’: Love, Loyalty and the Cost of Violence

This Friday, October 31, Violent Ends — a hard-hitting, Southern-set revenge thriller from writer-director John-Michael Powell (The Send-off) — arrives in cinemas, courtesy of Independent Film Company.

Set against the rugged Ozark Mountains, Violent Ends follows Lucas Frost (Billy Magnussen No Time To Die, Road House), a man determined to leave his crime-family past behind and build a life on his own terms with his fiancée, Emma (Alexandra ShippAnyone But You, Silk Road). But when his cousin, Sid (James Badge DaleKing Ivory, Hightown), commits a violent armed robbery with devastating consequences, Lucas is pulled back into a world he cannot leave behind, forced to confront the legacy he was born into.

The film also features performances from Kate Burton, Ray McKinnon, and Nick Stahl.

Powell frames Violent Ends as far more than a conventional revenge story. “For me, this is not simply a story about vengeance – it’s about the futility of it,” he says. “Violence begets violence. No matter how righteous the initial impulse, the cycle leaves only scars. I wanted to make a film that was thrilling, yes, but also one that pressed on the bruise of inherited anger.”

In anticipation of the film’s release this Friday, CinemaChords sat down with Alexandra Shipp and Nick Stahl to discuss Violent Ends’ exploration of love, loyalty, and legacy. They also shared insights on the film’s raw take on cyclical violence and the vice-like grip of past sins, all set against the unforgiving terrain of the Ozarks and filtered through an anti-Western lens.

Violent Ends releases exclusively In Theaters October 31st.
