A24 Drops New Trailer for ‘Undertone,’ a Supernatural Shocker That Plays Its Scares Through the Static

A24 has released a new official trailer for The Undertone, the terrifying debut you have to hear to believe from writer-director Ian Tuason. The film is scheduled to release exclusively in theaters on March 13, 2026.

The studio acquired worldwide distribution rights following a competitive bidding process, finalizing the deal shortly after the film’s premiere at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival on July 27. Industry reports place the sale in the mid–seven-figure range, signaling strong confidence from A24 in Tuason’s first feature.

The film stars Nina Kiri (“The Handmaid’s Tale”, The Heretics) as Evy, a pragmatic woman caring for her seriously ill mother in a house that becomes increasingly oppressive. Evy co-hosts a paranormal podcast with her friend Justin, approaching supernatural claims with skepticism. Their routine is upended when they begin receiving a series of anonymous audio recordings that are at once childish and disturbing. The tapes, which appear to document the nighttime behavior of a couple named Mike and Jessa, begin to blur the line between observation and participation.

The Undertone is produced by Slaterverse Pictures, Black Fawn Films, and KINO Studios. Dan Slater and Cody Calahan serve as producers, with executive producers including Chad Archibald, Daril Fannin, Brit MacRae, Anthony Eu, Douglas Lee, Al Akdari, Charles Bern, Mathew Sterling, David Sproat, and Tuason himself. The feature also initiates a broader collaboration between Black Fawn and KINO, with additional genre projects planned.
