‘We expanded every level of the first film’: Kurtis David Harder on the Influencers Sequel, Coming to Shudder

The sun-soaked landscapes of southern France provide a deceptively serene backdrop for Influencers, the much-welcomed surprise sequel to Kurtis David Harder‘s 2022 horror-thriller Influencer. Set to stream on Shudder from 12 December, the film promises an even deeper dive into desire, deception, and the dark side of online notoriety.

Cassandra Naud (It’s a Wonderful Knife) returns as CW, whose seemingly tranquil life with her girlfriend Diane (Lisa DelamarSurvive) masks a troubling obsession with murder and stolen identities. Their anniversary retreat, intended as a quiet escape, takes a sinister turn when they meet Charlotte (Georgina CampbellBarbarian), a daring and magnetic influencer. Charlotte’s curiosity quickly becomes intrusive, setting off a chain of events that spirals violently out of control. Diane soon starts to sense that all is not as it seems, threatening to unravel CW’s meticulously constructed existence.

Joining the cast are Emily Tennant, Jonathan Whitesell, Veronica Long, and Dylan Playfair. The film is produced by Jack Campbell, Chris Ball, Taylor Nodrick, Rebecca Campbell, Harder himself, and Micah Henry, with Jack and Rebecca Campbell also serving as executive producers.

Speaking on the sequel, Harder said: “I wanted to expand everything we did with the first film, taking everything to new heights with a larger scope, as well as taking a deeper look into the psychopathic and exploitative nature of CW and what makes her tick… We expanded every level of the first film, finding new, unique locations all around the world… Additionally, with this film, we are exploring other sides of the current online zeitgeist, like the growing Red Pill sub-culture, as well as my own glimpse into some of the potential AI societal changes… We hope to keep audiences guessing once again… Influencers takes us on a bigger, grander adventure, while also exploring deeper into the current zeitgeist of social media, our relationship with technology, and builds a shifting narrative structure that will keep audiences on their toes.”

The film drops on Shudder on December 12, but for the time being, we’ll leave you with an exclusive clip that provides a taste of the interplay between CW and the dangerously curious Charlotte.
