StudioCanal’s ‘THE OUTRUN’ Trailer Explores a Journey of Self-Destructive Impulses and Personal Transformation

Studiocanal has today debuted the first official trailer for The Outrun based on Amy Liptrot’s eponymous bestselling memoir.

Co-written and directed by Nora Fingscheidt (The Unforgivable, System Crasher), from a screenplay penned with Liptrot, this uncompromising interrogation of Liptrot’s self-destructive impulses and transformation in its truest sense sees Saoirse Ronan (Foe, Lady Bird) star as Rona, a woman fresh out of rehab who returns to the wild beauty of the Orkney Islands off the Scottish coast. After over a decade of living on the edge in London, where she found and lost love, 30-year-old Rona now grapples with her troubled past. As she reconnects with the dramatic landscape of her childhood, Rona’s memories of her traumatic upbringing intertwine with the more recent events that set her on the path to recovery.

The film also stars Saskia Reeves (“Slow Horses”, “Luther”), Stephen Dillane (“Game of Thrones”, “The Tunnel”), Lauren Lyle (Mercy Falls, “Outlander”), Izuka Hoyle (Boiling Point, “The Responder”), and Paapa Essiedu (Men, “Gangs of London”).

The film premiered at both the 2024 Sundance & Berlin Film Festivals earlier this year and will screen as the opening night film at the 77th Edinburgh International Film Festival.

The Outrun will release in cinemas across the UK from September 27 and Germany from November 7.
