Lightbulb Film Distribution Secures Biggest Acquisition to Date with Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson’s ‘SOMETHING IN THE DIRT’

As per Deadline, Lightbulb Film Distribution has nabbed the UK rights to the always ambitious filmmaking duo Aaron Moorhead and Justin Benson‘s latest feature, Something In The Dirt, the banner’s biggest acquisition to date.

Filmed during the pandemic, the intimate film is directed by and stars Moorhead and Benson, the creative minds behind Synchronic and The Endless, and who most recently directed the 2nd and 4th episodes of Disney’s “Moon Knight” and are currently in London prepping to film the second season of Disney’s “Loki.”

The duo’s fifth film sees them navigate meta waters, centering their story on neighbors John and Levi who witness supernatural events in their Los Angeles apartment building. Realizing that documenting the paranormal could inject some fame and fortune into their wasted lives, they end up burrowing down a deep, dark rabbit hole and their friendship frays as they uncover the dangers of the phenomena, the city and each other.

Commenting on the news, Sales and Acquisitions Director, Peter Thompson said, “We are delighted to be bringing Something In The Dirt to UK and Ireland audiences later this year. Moorhead and Benson are visionary filmmakers. Their mind-bending stories are always compelling and this latest project is no different; it’s another bold, elevated-genre gem.”

Something in the Dirt premiered in the “Next” strand of this year’s Sundance Film Festival garnering rave reviews. The deal was negotiated with Tatyana Joffe of XYZ Films and Lightbulb intends to release the film theatrically sometime in the last quarter of 2022.
