Get Lost in the Maize: Seth Daly’s Rural Nightmare ‘The Rows’ Set to Reap Havoc at FrightFest

A haunting tale of survival and suspense is set to unspool on the big screen this August, as The Rows prepares for its International Premiere at this year’s FrightFest. The film will debut on Sunday 25th August as part of the festival’s official selection.

Written and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Seth Daly, The Rows stars Brindisi Dupree (Dr. Quarantine), Lara Pictet (Secret Identity, By Light of Desert Night), Marcus Woods (Empire, Fatal Attraction, Finding Nicole), Hans Heilmann (The Lord of All Future Space & Time, Well Past Midnight), alongside Mary Montoya, Rynn Reigns, Douglas Fries, and Daly himself.

Shot entirely on 35mm in the rural sprawl of Ohio, the film is a tightly-wound horror thriller set amidst the eerie confines of an endless cornfield. Described as a suspense-driven “potboiler” in the tradition of No Country for Old Men, The Strangers, and The Town That Dreaded Sundown, the film runs at a lean 98 minutes and keeps dialogue to a bare minimum — a deliberate stylistic choice to underscore the film’s stark tension.

The story centres on seven-year-old Lucy, who wakes in the middle of a cornfield with a head wound and no memory of how she got there. As she stumbles upon a dead body and an abandoned firearm, she is quickly forced into a deadly game of cat and mouse with three masked assailants. With daylight fading and danger around every corner, Lucy must navigate the rows, her only allies being a loyal family dog and a mysterious golden creature lurking within the field.

Celebrating the film’s selection, Daly said:

The Rows was made for FrightFest and the cinematic aesthetic it celebrates. From the celluloid photography to the killer soundtrack, everything was crafted with the theatrical experience in mind.  The audience will have a blast.”

The official trailer for The Rows is now available, offering a first glimpse at Daly’s debut. With its combination of striking visuals, retro sensibilities, and creeping dread, The Rows looks set to offer festivalgoers a gritty and palpable experience.

The Rows premieres internationally at FrightFest on 25th August 2025 and all details regarding the screening are available here.
