Paramount+ has today announced the premiere date for the much-awaited prequel series, “Dexter: Original Sin,” accompanied by the release of a new teaser. The 10-episode drama series, currently in production in Los Angeles, charts the early days of America’s favorite serial killer-in-training and will premiere internationally on 13 December on Paramount+.
The new series, set in 1991 Miami, charts Dexter’s (Patrick Gibson – “Before We Die”, “Shadow and Bone”) transition from student to avenging serial killer. Dexter is consumed by an uncontrollable bloodlust and must learn to harness his inner darkness under the guidance of his father, Harry (Golden Globe® winner Christian Slater – Very Bad Things, True Romance). Harry’s carefully crafted ‘Code’ teaches Dexter to target and eliminate those deserving of society’s justice, all while evading law enforcement detection. This proves a particular challenge as Dexter begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
The series’ ensemble cast is rounded out by Molly Brown (“Evil”, Senior Year) as Dexter’s younger sister, Debra Morgan, Golden Globe nominee Patrick Dempsey as Aaron Spencer, James Martinez as Angel Batista, Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka, Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt and special guest star, Emmy® winner Sarah Michelle Gellar, as Tanya Martin.
“Dexter: Original Sin” is executive produced by Clyde Phillips and produced by SHOWTIME Studios and Counterpart Studios. Serving executive producers also include Scott Reynolds (“Jessica Jones”), Michael C. Hall (“Dexter), Mary Leah Sutton (“Resident Evil), Tony Hernandez (“Emily in Paris”) Lilly Burns (“Russian Doll”), with the series being produced by Robert Lloyd Lewis (“The Lincoln Lawyer”). Reuniting with Slater is Heather‘s director Michael Lehmann, who serves as directing executive producer.
For Showtime Studios, the series is being creatively overseen by Gary Levine and Urooj Sharif, with production supervised by Tara Power. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution outside of Paramount+ markets.
