Taron Egerton Checks Into Hell in Trailer for Apple’s Gritty, Psychological Prison Drama “Black Bird”

Apple has today released the official trailer for its forthcoming gritty psychological suspense series “Black Bird” developed and executive produced by acclaimed, best-selling crime novelist Dennis Lehaneof.

Inspired by actual events, and adapted from the best-selling true-crime memoir “In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and A Dangerous Bargain for Redemption” by James Keene and Hillel Levin, “Black Bird” stars Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Legend, Rocketman), Paul Walter Hauser (“Cobra Kai,” Cruella), Sepideh Moafi (“The Deuce,” “The L Word: Generation Q”), Greg Kinnear (As Good as It Gets, “House of Cards”) and Ray Liotta (GoodFellas, Narc).

“Black Bird” chronicles the trials and tribulations of high school soccer hero, son of a decorated cop and convicted drug dealer, Jimmy Keene (Egerton), who is offered the choice of a lifetime when he gets sent down for 10 years in a minimum-security prison: enter a maximum-security prison for the criminally insane and befriend alleged serial killer Larry Hall (Hauser), or stay put and serve his full sentence with no chance of parole. Keene quickly realizes his only way out is to elicit a confession and find out where the bodies of several young girls are buried before Hall’s appeal goes through. But is this suspected killer telling the truth? Or is it just another tale from a serial liar? This dramatic and captivating story subverts the crime genre by enlisting the help of the very people put behind bars to solve its mysteries.

The first two episodes of “Black Bird” will premiere globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, July 8, 2022, followed by one new episode every subsequent Friday.
