Soccer Mommy, the musical moniker of Nashville-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sophie Allison, has revealed details of her forthcoming album, Evergreen. Already preceded with the singles ‘Lost, ‘M,’ and ‘Driver’, her latest material candidly navigates the myriad forms that devotion can take.
In anticipation of said album, Soccer Mommy has now announced a pair of special in-store performances in the UK, giving fans an intimate preview of the new material in the lead-up to the LP’s debut. These performances will take place on 08 Oct 2024 at Rough Trade East, London, UK (tickets available here) and on 09 Oct 2024 at Rough Trade, Liverpool, UK (tickets available here).
This will be followed by a huge international tour announced for 2025, including headline tour dates in the UK. All touring details can be found here.
Allison launched her career at a young age, sharing her music on Bandcamp in what was then near-demo form. In recent years, she has been exploring the creative possibilities offered by synthesizers and experimental production techniques, thanks to the extensive studio resources now at her disposal.
However, when Allison came to work on material for Evergreen, she had the clear sense that the songs would benefit from a different approach. Songwriting has always been Allison’s outlet for processing life experiences and grounding herself. In the wake of a significant and personal loss, she felt it was important to maintain the rawness and relatability of these songs, presenting them in an unvarnished and honest manner. By pursuing a more organic production approach and focusing on her songwriting, Allison achieved what she set out to do.
The result is Evergreen, which marks a sonic return to Soccer Mommy’s roots but recast on a cinematic scale with the help of acoustic guitars, lush strings and flutes. Nothing overindulgent, everything real.
Evergreen was made by Allison in Atlanta’s Maze Studios with producer Ben H. Allen III (Deerhunter, Animal Collective, Youth Lagoon, Belle and Sebastian), and will be released on October 25th via Loma Vista Recordings. The LP is available to pre-order here.
