Manchester’s ROLLA hit the ground running with another brand new track, ‘Beautiful Lie,’ set to drop on March 6th, just a day before the release of their much-anticipated second EP, We Owe You Nothing.
Known for their bold, riff-heavy anthems and catchy hooks in tracks like ‘Ease My Mind,’ ‘Sweet Lullaby,’ and ‘No Violence,’ ROLLA have earned a reputation for their energetic and high-impact sound. With ‘Beautiful Lie,’ however, the band shows they’ve got more in their musical arsenal.
A Shift in Sound with ‘Beautiful Lie’
From the first notes of ‘Beautiful Lie,’ it’s clear that this track is different. The song opens with plaintive acoustic guitars, giving fans a taste of a softer side to the band. James Gilmore’s vocals, filled with emotion, explore feelings of loneliness and uncertainty—yet as the track builds, it transforms into something hopeful and uplifting. The anthemic hook takes the listener on a journey from vulnerability to a sense of optimism.
James shared his thoughts on the song:
“This is probably the most professional and mature song we’ve ever written. Every part of it, from the structure to the melodies and the weight of the lyrics, feels intentional. It’s got that anthemic, hands-in-the-air energy that was made for festival crowds. It’s a big contrast to some of the heavier tracks on the EP, but in its own way, it’s just as powerful, built for big moments and big stages.”
‘We Owe You Nothing’ EP – A Preview of More to Come
Alongside ‘Beautiful Lie,’ We Owe You Nothing will feature the title track, the recent release ‘It Ain’t Easy,’ and a new song titled ‘The Slide.’ This will be ROLLA’s first vinyl release, which is available for pre-order HERE. The EP follows the success of their 2023 release Nothing Less Than Everything, which hit #1 on the iTunes Album and Alternative Charts.
With We Owe You Nothing, ROLLA continues to push boundaries and explore new territory while staying true to their roots. The mix of energetic, guitar-driven tracks and more introspective moments shows the band’s ability to balance big sounds with emotional depth.
Lineup Changes and Live Performances
Recently, ROLLA announced the departure of their drummer, Saul Bardsley. Stepping in behind the drums is Ryan Hunt, who was the band’s original drummer when ROLLA first started. Ryan’s return brings a fresh dynamic to the band, and fans can expect that to come through in their live shows.
ROLLA have proven themselves as a live act to watch, with past performances at major festivals like Truck and Neighbourhood Weekender, as well as a support slot with Kasabian. Their headline show at Manchester’s New Century Hall on May 3rd promises to be a major event, with tickets available here.
