As Shed Seven celebrates an impressive three decades as a beloved musical act, the band has devised a landmark project to commemorate such a significant milestone in their storied career.
Drawing on their devoted fanbase that has supported them throughout their illustrious career, the band has meticulously selected and rearranged a collection of signature tracks from across their storied career, reinterpreting each with the sweeping, cinematic grandeur of a full orchestral ensemble. The result is an immersive, nostalgic listening experience that celebrates Shed Seven’s celebrated legacy while offering fans a fresh perspective on the band’s cherished catalogue.
The band’s sixth studio album, “A Matter of Time,” shot straight to number last january, but they never had any immediate plans to return to the studio and record a follow-up. For a couple of years, they had been contemplating the idea of creating an orchestral album, a significant departure from their signature guitar-driven rock sound. However, it wasn’t until until they learned that one of their former record labels was plotting to release another “best of” compilation, which the band saw as “a blatant cash grab for our 30th anniversary (on the back of the success of ‘A Matter of Time’),” that they felt the time was right to take matters into their own hands. Determined to keep control of their legacy and artistic vision, the band promptly set to work on recording “Liquid Gold,” a project that not only thwarted the old label’s plans, but also provided the band with an opportunity to create something “truly meaningful to celebrate 30 years of Shed Seven.”
Produced by Michael Rendall (Black Grape, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Orb, The Clockworks), who previously lent his talents to the bands previous two albums, and featuring string arrangements by Rendell and Fiona Brice, the album also includes a stunning collaboration with Issy Ferris from Ferris & Sylvester on “Waiting For The Catch” and a brand new track, “All Roads Lead To You.”
Describing the whole experience, the band revealed how “Liquid Gold” is a, “record we poured our hearts and souls into, several weeks in the studio ..falling in love with the old songs all over again, determined to create something special for those who truly love our music … taking Shed Seven fans, new and old, through a cinematic journey. The album has been crafted with love and passion. It’s beautiful and emotional, but most of all, it’s a celebratory record … “Liquid Gold” is a best-of Shed Seven, but it’s fresh – and it’s been done on our terms.”
In anticipation of this Friday’s release of “Liquid Gold”, CinemaChords’ Howard Gorman sat down with the band’s frontman, Rick Witter, to revel in the group’s impressive three-decade legacy and uncover the process behind deconstructing and rebuilding each song from the ground up, experimenting with fresh arrangements, instrumentation, and production techniques to present their devoted fanbase with a thrilling new spin on the Shed Seven sound.
“Liquid Gold” releases this Friday, 27th September and is available to pre-order now on vinyl, CD, cassette and digital formats here.
To celebrate their anniversary and the new album release, the band will embark on an extensive tour, which will include a selection of intimate performances and signing events. Go grab your tickets whilst their still available here.
