Pulp fans, get ready for one of the most anticipated musical comebacks in recent history: Pulp’s first new album in nearly 24 years, More, is officially on the way. Set to drop on June 6th, 2025, via Rough Trade Records, this album marks a new chapter for the iconic British band.
And what a fitting title: More. It’s exactly what we’ve all been yearning for from Pulp.
The announcement comes with a treat for fans – the release of “Spike Island,” the album’s first single. A track that combines a killer earworm with a nostalgic nod to the past, “Spike Island” was co-written by Jason Buckle, whose inspiration comes from the infamous Stone Roses gig at Spike Island. While Jarvis didn’t attend the event, the memory of an overzealous DJ shouting “Spike Island, come alive!” all day at the festival stuck with him to this day. Produced by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Fontaines DC), the track is a perfect taste of what’s to come on More.
Despite the long gap between albums, the More recording process itself was strikingly swift. The band spent just three weeks in Walthamstow’s Orbb Studio recording and mixing the album in November 2024.
“I think this album was just waiting to happen,” Jarvis Cocker says of the process. “When we started touring in 2023, we began playing ‘Hymn of the North’ during soundchecks. That’s when everything clicked, and suddenly, we were writing the rest of the album.” And it wasn’t just the band that contributed: Richard Hawley wrote the music for one track, while Jason Buckle added his own composition. The Eno family even contributed backing vocals to a track, and string arrangements were provided by Richard Jones and played by the Elysian Collective.
Cocker also humorously notes that “no A.I. was involved in the process.”
For vinyl enthusiasts, Pulp is offering an exciting array of limited edition releases. In addition to the standard black LP, fans can get their hands on various coloured versions, each with its own unique character. The “Theresa” green LP will be available everywhere, while the “Blue Sky Thinking” Marble LP is exclusive to independent record stores. For those in Sheffield, there’s the “South Yorkshire Sunset” Marble LP, and a special “Isha Kriya” ink spot design can be found exclusively through Pulp’s online shop and Rough Trade Records. And let’s not forget the double LP cut at 45 RPM, a real treat for audiophiles.
The album is dedicated to the late Steve Mackey, the band’s bassist, whose influence we are sure will be deeply felt in every note of this record.
