ONE BAG FOR ONE LIFE…
The idea of losing your luggage at the airport is certainly a frustrating and stressful experience, but for Taron Egerton‘s (Kingsman, Rocketman) character in Jaume Collet-Serra‘s (Non-Stop, The Shallows, Orphan) upcoming thriller Carry-On, that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to airport-related anxiety, as you are about to find out in the newly released trailer for the film.
Directed by Collet-Serra, from a script penned by T.J. Fixman (the Ratchet & Clank video games) and Michael Green (Logan, Blade Runner 2049, Alien: Covenant), Carry-On sees Egerton play Ethan Kopek, a TSA agent who finds himself being blackmailed by a mysterious traveler (Jason Bateman – “Ozark”, The Gift) who threatens to execute Ethan’s pregnant girlfriend (Sofia Carson – Purple Hearts, Feel The Beat) if he fails to comply with instructions.
Commenting on his penchant for and success with claustrophobic settings, Collet-Serra explained, “Contained environments force us to get to know the movie’s characters very quickly and personally — we’re immediately in the thick of the story with them, which creates a genuine investment in what’s happening on-screen … It’s also a very exciting visual challenge as a filmmaker to come up with creative ways to shoot every inch of a small space and try to make it look different and find new details of the world in each scene.”
Despite the contained setting, Carry-On features an extensive ensemble cast including Danielle Deadwyler (The Harder They Fall, the upcoming The Piano Lesson), Sinqua Walls (“Friday Night Lights”, White Men Can’t Jump), Logan Marshall-Green (Lou, Upgrade), Theo Rossi (Emily the Criminal, “The Penguin”), Josh Brener (Old Dads, “Silicon Valley”), Dean Norris (“Breaking Bad”, Unfrosted), Tonatiuh (“Angelyne”, “Promised Land”), Curtiss Cook (West Side Story, The Devil You Know), Joe Williamson (Ford v Ferrari, Lucy in the Sky), and Gil Perez-Abraham (The Batman, Killer Among Us).
Carry-On is produced by Dylan Clark and executive produced by Holly Bario, Brian Williams, Jaume Collet-Serra, Seth William Meier, and Scott Greenberg and is scheduled to take flight on Netflix this coming December 13. We’ll leave you with the aforementioned trailer, which offers a sense of the film’s high-stakes, large-scale character, showcasing tense airport security scenes and an explosive car crash.
