The doll who rebooted the horror genre in 2023 is back—and this time, she’s not running solo. M3GAN 2.0, the much-anticipated sequel to the hit M3GAN, has just dropped its first trailer, and it’s clear that this next chapter in artificial intelligence terror is going to reprogram your expectations. Get ready for an even more thrilling, chilling journey as the code behind M3GAN evolves into something far more dangerous and unpredictable.
The creative minds behind the original phenomenon—horror maestros James Wan of Atomic Monster, Jason Blum of Blumhouse, and director Gerard Johnstone—return to reboot the next chapter of A.I. mayhem with M3GAN 2.0. This time, the stakes are higher, the technology is even more advanced, and the body count is set to rise.
Set two years after the events of the first film, M3GAN 2.0 picks up with Gemma (Allison Williams), the creator of M3GAN, who has become a public figure advocating for strict government oversight of artificial intelligence. However, her niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14 years old, is pushing back against Gemma’s overprotective rules as she navigates her teenage years.
But all is not as it seems. While Gemma and Cady have been trying to move on from the chaos of M3GAN’s original rampage, the technology behind the rogue doll has been stolen and repurposed by a powerful defense contractor. This leads to the creation of Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno), a military-grade infiltration weapon designed to be the perfect killer spy. However, as Amelia becomes more self-aware, she begins to question her orders—and her loyalty to humanity.
Faced with an impending threat to the future of humanity, Gemma realizes that her only option is to resurrect M3GAN (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis), the original A.I. terror, and upgrade her with new capabilities. Faster, stronger, and deadlier than ever, M3GAN is about to face off with her own creation in an all-out battle of artificial intelligence.
The film brings back a strong supporting cast, including Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps as Gemma’s tech colleagues, Cole and Tess. The sequel also introduces new characters played by Aristotle Athari (Saturday Night Live, Hacks), Timm Sharp (Apples Never Fall, Percy Jackson and the Olympians), and Jemaine Clement (Avatar: The Way of Water, What We Do in the Shadows).
Produced by James Wan, Jason Blum, and Allison Williams, M3GAN 2.0 promises to build on the success of the first film, which shattered box office records with a $30.4 million opening weekend, becoming the biggest opening for a PG-13 horror film since A Quiet Place Part II. The first film ultimately grossed over $180 million worldwide, and with the new sequel poised to raise the stakes even higher, it’s safe to say M3GAN 2.0 will be another box-office juggernaut.
