Hailing from New York City’s thriving DIY music underground, the alternative rock band Monobloc has rapidly gained prominence with their distinctive sound and today seen the group release their latest single, “Irish Goodbye,” further expanding their quickly growing discography.
The band’s first two singles, “Where is My Garden” and “I’m Just Trying To Love You,” showcased their fully-formed, envelope-pushing sound, with intricate guitar work and sweeping melodies. However, their latest release takes a sharp turn, abandoning that signature style for a driving, propulsive track that embodies the complexity of tense no-wave and post-punk, featuring lyrics that explore the social stresses faced by young people navigating life in a new city.
To coincide with their latest release, Monobloc has also shared a self-directed music video, which they filmed in New York City.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind their new track, lead vocalist Timothy Waldrong shared that, “In the fall of 2022, I was religiously watching this live video of Eric Burdon and War performing Spill The Wine … I was new to the city and still finding my crowd, ducking and dodging strong characters at every turn. I was in too deep with my odd jobs. I was falling in and out of love with it all. This song slipped out.”
Monobloc’s live ambition has seen the band busy across the summer, including a slot in support of LCD Soundsystem at All Points East, a feverish performance at Rock En Seine and a sold-out residency at Manhattan hotspot Pianos. The band will be heading back to the UK in November for debut headlining shows in Manchester and London, as well as further upcoming international appearances at Corona Capital Festival, Iceland Airwaves and the inaugural United Sounds NYC Festival.
