Disney+ has today announced the premiere of an exclusive documentary, “The Beach Boys,” set to be available for streaming on May 24, 2024.
Directed by Frank Marshall and Thom Zimny, this documentary pays homage to The Beach Boys, a seminal band whose innovative contributions to pop music have sculpted the quintessential sound of the California dream, captivating audiences across multiple generations.
“The Beach Boys” explores the band’s origins, starting from their modest family roots, and features unprecedented footage alongside in-depth interviews with The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, David Marks, Bruce Johnston, plus other luminaries in the music business, including Lindsey Buckingham, Janelle Monáe, Ryan Tedder, and Don Was. In addition, the documentary offers unique perspectives from Carl and Dennis Wilson in their own words, including a new interview with Blondie Chaplin and audio contributions from Ricky Fataar.
A Kennedy/Marshall and White Horse Pictures Production, “The Beach Boys” is directed by Frank Marshall and Thom Zimny and written by Mark Monroe. The film is produced by Frank Marshall, Irving Azoff, Nicholas Ferrall, Jeanne Elfant Festa, Aly Parker, with Nigel Sinclair, Mark Monroe, Tony Rosenthal, Cassidy Hartmann, Glen Zipper, Thom Zimny, Beth Collins, Jimmy Edwards, Susan Genco, Marc Cimino, Jody Gerson, Bruce Resnikoff, and Ben J. Murphy serving as executive producers.
Complementing the documentary, the official soundtrack of “The Beach Boys,” featuring select songs from the film, will be released for streaming and download on the same day as the documentary’s premiere. In addition, the band’s celebrated 1964 album “Shut Down, Vol. 2” is set to be reissued in a limited edition blue and white marble vinyl on March 29 (stream or purchase these Capitol/UMe albums here). Further celebrating their legacy, “The Beach Boys by The Beach Boys,” the group’s sole authorized book, will be available from Genesis Publications on April 2 (further details and pre-orders available here).
