Icon and FrightFest Form Exclusive Partnership

Icon Film Distribution (IFD) and FrightFest, the UK’s leading horror fantasy film festival, have entered into an exclusive partnership that will see IFD releasing FrightFest curated films under the banner ‘FrightFest Presents’.

Since FrightFest was set up 15 years ago, it has grown in size and stature, and today is internationally renowned for discovering exciting and original horror fantasy genre films.   Last August, the festival screened 63 of the best horror films from around the world to UK audiences, with many world and European premieres. Over the years the festival directors, Greg Day, Alan Jones, Paul McEvoy and Ian Rattray, have also brought masters of the genre to the festival including Guillermo del Toro, George Romero, Dario Argento and Sam Raimi. FrightFest has developed into a brand leader for horror film, expanding its footprint in the UK by hosting special strands at other festivals to great success, such as the established three-day event at the Glasgow Film Festival.

IFD has a longstanding track record in releasing genre films, from breakout hit PARANORMAL ACTIVITY which grossed a phenomenal £10 million at the UK box office to the cult vampire thriller 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, as well as re-issues of classic Hammer titles including DRACULA and THE MUMMY.  Most recently, IFD released the critical and box office hit IT FOLLOWS as well as THE BABADOOK, Jennifer Kent’s psychological horror story, which burst out of FrightFest’s August festival to become one of the most talked about horrors of 2014.

So with both going strength to strength this partnership will expand their brands nationwide. In addition select FrightFest endorsed films will be made available across the UK and Ireland via IFD’s digital partners (including Sky, iTunes, Amazon, Blinkbox, Film4OD, VirginMovies, TalkTalk, Google, Volta, and Eircom) giving film fans instant access to some of their favourite FrightFest titles. Each release will have the collective backing of both IFD and FrightFest across all social channels. The partnership deal was negotiated by Zak Brilliant, Head of Theatrical, and Sophie Wong, TV and Digital Sales Manager, for Icon, and Greg Day and Ian Rattray, Directors of FrightFest.

Paul McEvoy, Co-Director of FrightFest says, “In expanding the FrightFest brand we are opening up new audiences for horror and fantasy, a genre which already has a clear, devoted and almost fanatical fan base. With Icon as our partner and using their distribution channels, we are looking forward to talking to producers and sales companies about how FrightFest can get their films to more film fans.”

Ian Dawson, Icon Film Distribution CEO says, “Icon has always had a strong relationship with the FrightFest team, never more so than over the past 12 months when they, and their supporters, have been an integral part of our launches for The Guest, The Babadook and It Follows. We have long admired their commitment to genre and the loyal community they have built up over the years. This partnership offers a great opportunity to work together behind new and exciting content, taking it to the widest possible audience, making their community a whole lot bigger.”

Select titles for the joint venture will be announced soon and we here at CinemaChords can’t wait to hear more about this.

Bughuul is back in the trailer for SINISTER 2

Back in 2012 director Scott Derrickson terrified audiences with his supernatural horror film SINISTER as it performed incredibly well on the world box office. Starring Ethan Hawke, Juliet Rylance and James Ransone, Sinister told the story of Ellison, a true-crime writer who finds a stash of 8mm home movies each showing a series of ghastly murders. Delving deeper into the mystery he soon discovers that the films are the work of a serial killer whose career dates back to the 1960s. As with any well performing horror film comes with it the possibility to kick-start a new franchise so it came as no surprise when it was announced back in August 2014 that the sequel was going into production.

For the sequel Scott Derrickson has passed over his directorial duties. However, naysayers have no need to worry as SINISTER 2 is directed by Ciarán Foy who previously delivered the shocking horror Citadel. The upcoming sequel will see Shannyn Sossamon as Courtney, a single mother living in an isolated farm house that is marked for death. After one of her sons discovers a familiar stash of home movies, Courtney is thrust into a supernatural world where she must fight to save her own life and the lives of her sons. Sinister 2 will also see the return of James Ransone who reprises his role from the first film as Deputy So & So.

Not seven months after the initial announcement of the sequel the first trailer for SINISTER 2 has been released and we can’t wait to check it out. In the meantime, those lucky enough to have seen Citadel you know very well that Ciarán Foy knows what it takes to terrify his audiences so fans of the first film can rest well knowing that that the franchise has been left in good hands.

SINISTER 2 is scheduled for release in cinemas across the UK on 21st August, 2015.

F#%K YEAH! Reynolds confirms Deadpool will be Rated-R!

Last year fans of Marvel’s morally flexible merc-with-a-mouth were over the moon when it was announced that Ryan Reynolds will be starring in the hotly anticipated DEADPOOL feature. But from the beginning fans of the comic were all eager to express their concerns about the film’s target rating.

The filmmakers and Ryan Reynolds have publicly declared their desire to make an R-rated feature (Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian). There has been opposition from the creative minds at 20th Century Fox and today on 1st April, Ryan Reynolds announced some devastating news for fans via his Twitter account to confirm that DEADPOOL was going to a PG-13 rated feature. Thankfully in the spirit of April Fools the truth was finally revealed in a hilarious video courtesy of

DEADPOOL will be directed by Tim Miller and stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller and Gina Carano. Watch out world… KILL-CRAZY NYMPHOS ATTACK! is on the way!

Daniel Way & Soska Sisters

Calling all fans of See No Evil 2American Mary and Dead Hooker in a Trunk, those Twisted Twins are at it again as Jen and Sylvia Soksa have announced their fist graphic novel, KILL-CRAZY NYMPHOS ATTACK! Teaming up with Daniel Way, a personal favourite of theirs and the most inspirational graphic novelist, Kill-Crazy Nyphos Attack! is an original graphic novel that will be presented in a grindhouse/exploitation film style.

The story centers upon Purvis Gunt, a malcontent and pervert who works at a pharmaceutical lab. Purvis is obsessed with having rampant, porno-style sex with nearly every woman he sees but it’s never gonna happen for him because, in addition to the fact that he’s married, he’s revolting in every possible way. So he turns to science for a way to cheat the situation, using the resources of the pharmaceutical lab to create something that will cause women to lose any and all inhibition or restraint and fill them with uncontrollable lust. Purvis, however, is a terrible scientist. What he cooks up is a virus that fills women with not only a lust for sex…but for blood.

When the virus gets out and infects the female population of the small town where Purvis lives, carnage ensues and it’s up to Purvis, disgraced priest Father Osorio and super macho but sexually ambiguous SWAT officer Mack Diesel to contain the situation before woman-hating US President Pole drops a nuke on the whole goddamn mess.
Featuring interior art by Rob Dumo, cover by Dave Johnson, and colours by Joe TottiKill-Crazy Nymphos Attacks! will be filled with iconic, complex, cosplayable characters. The graphic novel will also feature the twins themselves, for the first time, appearing in graphic novel form as the “Sister Sisters“.

We are stoked to share this with you and hope that you want to climb aboard this rollercoaster ride infused with relevant social commentary which is exactly the unadulterated insanity free from any restrictions, creativity or budget that any self-respecting Soska fan has been waiting for.

With no restrictions the project is in full creative control of the Soskas and the brilliant Daniel Way and to fund it the Kill-Crazy Nymphos Attacks! team are launching it via Kickstarter. Viewing it as an online store, they are offering exclusive items and experiences that are only obtainable by donating to the cause.

If we can raise the money to produce this as a graphic novel it will make it a hell of a lot easier to produce this as a feature film later on” says Jen Soska. “…we fucking love our fans and that is why we put in so much thought into the incentives that we are offering for this kickstarter. Its kind of our way of not only thanking them for making this project a reality but thanking them for everything that they do for us.”

We are literally over the moon with this announcement and we hope you are too so we here at are proud to share with you the link to this awesome project:

Dan Stevens as Beast? Be our guest!

Since leaving Downton Abbey British hearthrob Dan Stevens‘ career has gone from strength to strength and has recently starred in such film as The Guest and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. With the way his career is blooming at the moment It would appear that Hollywood has also certainly fallen in love with him and if rumours are true, fans of the upcoming live adaptation of Disney’s beloved love story Beauty and the Beast will soon see Stevens take on the iconic role of Beast.

For those who are unaware of the timeless story, Beauty and The Beast is the story of Belle, a young girl who is dissatisfied with life in a small provincial French town. After her father Maurice takes a wrong turn in the dark woodsBell goes in search of him and discovers a monster-like Beast has taken him captive. Agreeing to take his place, Belle soon discovers that the Beast was once a prince whom is now under a magic spell that can only be broken by true love’s kiss.

We are excited by this news not only because we think Stevens is a terrific actor but he also comes from a background of theatre acting which we think will make him excel in the role. He will be joining Emma Watson (the Harry Potter franchise) who has been cast as Belle and action man Luke Evans (No One Lives) is also onboard as Gaston. It is also rumoured that Emma Thompson is in talks to play the role of the loving Mrs. Potts.

The Devil On Wheels Celebrates Spielberg’s Duel Phenomenon

Believe it or not, Steven Spielberg‘s first known work was a tiny TV movie shot over the course of just two weeks in 1971. The film followed a terror-stricken business commuter along the desert roads of Southern California running scared when a terrifying truck begins to pursue him for no apparent reason. The film in question is of course Duel which proved to be such a massive success when it aired on US television that it went on to screen in cinemas around the world, gaining the cult status it still maintains to this very day. Testament to its long-lived appreciation, director Alfonso Cuarón recently revealed that the film was a particular point of reference for him whilst shooting Gravity.

In 2015, THE DEVIL ON WHEELS (a direct translation of the film’s Spanish title), a new documentary will celebrate the making of and the cult surrounding Duel, exploring exactly why the it has generated such a passionate, international and undying cult.

Directed by Enric Folch, a multi-award winning TV director in Spain, this feature-length documentary will be shot in the USA with a team of five international Duel lovers travelling the country to explore the whole Duel phenomenon. The team will be interviewing the surviving members of the crew, reconstructing the way the movie was made, and meeting other fans and experts to pick their brains and deliberate the film’s enduring appeal.

NewDuelpostercreatedbyafan(ByCassieCallender)On Wednesday 4th March, the Devil on Wheels Productions will launch a 30 day Kickstarter crowd funding campaign on an all-or-nothing-basis giving fans the chance to take part in the project. The filmmakers have set up a website to provide fans will all the Duel related information they could dream of in one place. There is also an official Facebook page where fans can meet and greet each other. An actual gathering with Duel fans is also planned at one of the locations whilst the film is shooting. Be sure to keep up to date with the documentary over on Twitter, Google, Vimeo and YouTube.

In the meantime we’ll leave you with the original theatrical trailer for Duel to remind you just how great the movie was, as if you didn’t already remember….
