Catch Sandra Hüller in ‘Two To One’ – A Witty Ensemble Comedy Hitting UK Cinemas This May

Independent film distribution and cinema support agency Tull Stories has today debuted the UK poster and trailer for Two To One (Zwei Zu Eins), a witty ensemble comedy from Natja Brunckhorst. After winning hearts at the Glasgow Film Festival, where it was voted runner-up in the Audience Award, the film will hit UK cinemas on 2nd May.

Set in the final weeks before Germany’s reunification in 1990, Two To One centers on three childhood friends—Maren (Sandra HüllerAnatomy of a Fall, The Zone of Interest), Robert (Max RiemeltThe Matrix Resurrections, “Sense8”), and Volker (Ronald ZehrfeldPhoenix, Barbara)—who stumble upon a fortune in soon-to-be-worthless East German currency. With time running out before it becomes useless, the trio, joined by their quirky neighbors, hatch a plan to exchange the cash for goods before the incoming capitalists get their hands on it.

Packed with stand-out performances from Hüller, Riemelt, and Zehrfeld, this comedy explores the clash between socialist ideals and sudden wealth. With cinematography that captures the sweltering heat of East Germany and a timeless soundtrack by Hannah von Hübbenet, Two To One offers a fresh take on friendship, community, and capitalism.

Director Brunckhorst, who wanted to avoid clichés, ensured the film’s visual and emotional authenticity. “We only used clothes from the period, and for filming we decided: No jokes about clothes! And that worked very well. Everyone looks good in what they wear because they are our heroes,” she says, capturing a true-to-life portrayal of 1990s East Germany.

The film has already delighted audiences in festivals, with Brunckhorst commenting, “500,000 Germans laughed about it. Clearly, it’s either comedy gold or hilariously off—give it a try.”

Two To One is the second film in Tull Stories’ Joy of Cinema strand, promising another hit after their festival success with Oh My Goodness!. Catch it in UK cinemas from 2nd May for a dose of laughs, friendship, and a touch of nostalgia.
