Bilbao’s FANT XX Lineup Announced

Bilbao’s FANT Festival reaches its 20th anniversary this year and this morning released the lineup and it’s quite the stunner. The headline of the day is that Ti West will be attending the festival to present his latest film, The Sacrament.

Now in its 20th year, the festival will start the proceedings with a screening of the award-winning Alfredo Montero film La Cueva (The Cave) with both the film’s director and cast in attendance. Given the ever-growing attendance each year, the festival coordinators have expanded the number of screenings by a whopping 40% compared to 2013 treating audiences to a total of 40 feature films and a further 40 short films to enjoy over the 8 day run.

A total of 11 feature films will be competing in the FANT official section hailing from Spain, Germany, South Korea, Israel, USA together with two co-productions (one between Australia and the UK and another between France and Canada). As we mentioned above, the festival’s highlight will be a screening of Ti West’s The Sacrament which will be presented by the director himself and he will be accompanied by lead actress, Kate Lyn Sheil, also a screenwriter and director who has appeared in the likes of You’re Next and V/H/S as well as series such as ‘House of Cards.’ The full lineup of official selection films can be found here and include some that we only have praise for here at Chords such as Cheap Thrills, Escape From Tomorrow, On Air and Open Grave.

An international jury will decide on the best film in this Section, made up of director, screenwriter and producer Matthew Robbins, who has worked with directors of the caliber of Steven Spielberg (Batteries Not Included) and Guillermo Del Toro (Mimic), actor Carlos Areces, who has worked with the likes of Alex De la Iglesia, Pedro Almodóvar or Nacho Vigalondo, and journalist, film critic and blogger, Andrea G. Bermejo.

There will be so much more going on at this year’s selection and we’ll leave you with a three minute presentation video which should leave you with absolutely no excuses for not attending FANT XX.
