FilmNation Entertainment‘s production banner, Infrared, has signed on to produce a potential new action franchise titled Painter. The film will star rising actress Amber Midthunder (Prey, Novocaine) and Alan Ritchson (“Reacher”, War Machine).
Founded in 2022 as an initiative to finance and produce mainstream films with franchise potential, Infrared works towards producing three to four mid-to-high budget films each year in the action, thriller, comedy and sci-fi genres.
Painter was penned by Derek Kolstad (Nobody and John Wick franchises), the latter of which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The film marks the directorial debut of renowned Hollywood stunt coordinator Garrett Warren, whose stunt work and second unit direction credits include Logan, Crank, Planet Terror, and Road House, and focuses on a young woman, trained from a young age, who must utilize her full skill set to rescue her father after he is kidnapped.
Following the announcement, Infrared President of Production enthused, “Painter will be a seminal action hero film, making Midthunder into this generation’s Sarah Connor (Terminator) … We loved Kolstad’s high-octane script, and we know with Garrett Warren at the helm this film will kickstart an exciting new franchise in the world of action.”
Painter is produced by Ritchson, Drew Simon for Infrared, Kolstad, Josh Adler for Circle of Confusion, and Dan Spilo for Industry Entertainment with Infrared providing financing. FilmNation plans to launch sales on the project to buyers at next week’s American Film Market (AFM) in Las Vegas.
Warren’s forthcoming projects include Action Director on Jason Strickland’s The Friendly which delves into the poignant narrative of a veteran and his loyal canine companion starring , and Stunt Coordinator on Bernard Rose‘s adaptation of William Shakespeare’s King Lear, Lear Rex starring Al Pacino, Jessica Chastain, Ariana DeBose, Rachel Brosnahan, LaKeith Stanfield and Peter Dinklage.
