‘A NICE INDIAN BOY’ Trailer: Karan Soni and Jonathan Groff Star in Charming Story of Love, Family, and Finding Yourself

If you’re after a film that blends family, love, and a bit of life’s awkwardness, then A Nice Indian Boy might just be what you’re looking for. Wayfarer Studios has just dropped the official trailer for Roshan Sethi‘s (7 Days, World’s Best) latest film, which looks set to tug at the heartstrings and keep you chuckling at the same time. Set for a nationwide release on April 4, 2025, it’s one to keep an eye on.

The film follows Naveen Gavaskar (Karan SoniDeadpool, “Abbott Elementary”), a quiet and self-effacing doctor who, on the surface, seems to have everything together. But there’s one thing he hasn’t quite figured out: his family, though outwardly accepting of his sexuality, hasn’t really had to confront it. Things get complicated when Naveen meets Jay Kurundkar (Jonathan GroffFrozen, Hamilton), a white man adopted by Indian parents, who immediately makes an impact on Naveen. They fall in love, but Naveen still hasn’t told his family about Jay.

The real drama kicks in when, after an awkward encounter with his brother-in-law, Naveen describes Jay as a “friend,” which sparks a bigger conversation about love, family, and what it really means to be true to yourself. As Jay, who doesn’t have his own family, steps into the world of the Gavaskars, it’s fair to say things don’t go smoothly. There are misunderstandings, emotional confrontations, and a whole lot of heartfelt moments along the way.

Directed by Sethi, with a screenplay by Eric Randall (“In The Dark”) based on Madhuri Shekar’s play, A Nice Indian Boy offers much more than just a love story. It’s a thoughtful look at how family dynamics can clash with modern relationships, and how, despite all the messiness, love and acceptance can still find their way. The cast is also top-notch, featuring Sunita Mani (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Zarna Garg (To the Letter), and Harish Patel (Eternals).

Whether you’re here for the charming romance, the family banter, or the deeper themes of identity and belonging, A Nice Indian Boy looks set to serve up an emotional and funny ride from start to finish.
